Volunteers Needed for El Paso County Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Advisory Board

El Paso County, CO, June 12, 2025 – The El Paso County Board of Commissioners announces vacancies on the El Paso County Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Advisory Board. Applications for the open positions are due by December 11, 2025.

The role of the El Paso County CSBG Advisory Board is to participate actively in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of the CSBG program in El Paso County and making recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on how best to utilize CSBG funding to serve low-income residents of El Paso County.

The Board consists of nine members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for three-year terms; members are limited to two full consecutive terms.

Board meetings are held quarterly; March, June, September, and December on the 2nd Friday of the month from 2:00-3:30 PM. Meetings are currently being held over an online platform.

The CSBG Advisory Board is currently seeking two new members;

• One ‘Public Elected Official’ sector

Public officials selected to serve on the board must have either executive government responsibilities, or responsibilities which require them to be involved with poverty-related matters. Each public official may choose one representative to serve on the board, full-time on their behalf. This member need not be a public official themselves, but they assume the elected (or appointed) official’s seat on the board.

• Two ‘Low-Income’ sector

This member must be representative of low-income individuals and families in El Paso County.

Volunteers Needed for the El Paso County Planning Commission

Colorado Springs, CO, May 14, 2025 – The Board of El Paso County Commissioners is seeking community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Planning Commission. Applications are due by December 11, 2025.

The Planning Commission currently has vacancies for Associate members (terms are 1 year).

The Planning Commission consists of nine Regular members and up to five Associate members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). Regular members serve a term of three years. Associate members serve a term of one year. The Planning Commission duties include but are not limited to: developing and adopting a Master Plan, reviewing and acting upon amendments to the Master Plan, developing and adopting a Zoning Plan, reviewing and making recommendations to the BOCC on applications for land-use and zoning, and recommending or imposing reasonable conditions upon approvals of applications to the BOCC. Volunteers Needed for Colorado State University Extension Advisory Committee

Colorado Springs, CO, April 24, 2025 – The El Paso County Board of Commissioners is seeking community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Colorado State University Extension Advisory Committee. Applications for the open position are due by December 11, 2025.

The CSU Extension Advisory Committee is currently seeking several volunteers who represent the following:
• 1 Family and Consumer Science Representative

• 2 Horticultural/Natural Resources Representatives

The mission of the El Paso County Extension Advisory Committee is to promote, advocate, and support the County’s Cooperative Extension programs and staff by developing and implementing a strong marketing strategy that results in educating community officials and providing information flow between county citizens and CSU Extension.

The CSU Extension Advisory Committee consists of 11 members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for three-year terms. Terms are limited to two full consecutive terms.

The committee meets on the first Tuesday in the months of February, April, September, and November at 6:00 p.m. Locations vary but meetings are typically held at the Extension Office, 17 N. Spruce St., Room 224, Colorado Springs, CO.

Volunteers Needed for El Paso County Community Corrections Board

El Paso County, CO, September 2, 2025 – The El Paso County Board of Commissioners seeks a community-minded and experienced mental health professional to voluntarily serve as a representative on the El Paso County Community Corrections Board. Applications for the open position are due by December 11, 2025.

The Community Corrections Board seeks a Mental Health Professional Representative to provide expertise and insight into mental health challenges for approximately 10-15 hours monthly, effective interventions, and a comprehensive approach to offender rehabilitation and public safety.

The Community Corrections Board is also seeking two Citizen at Large Member representing a cross-section of the community including, but not limited to, educators, business persons, clergy, and criminal justice practitioners.

The Community Corrections Board determines which offenders can safely be placed in the community, under what conditions an offender can participate in a program, and the standards by which a service provider must operate a facility. The board also monitors programs in the Fourth Judicial District, oversees compliance with state and local standards, and advises the El Paso County Board of Commissioners and the Fourth Judicial District Community Corrections Authority on other community corrections matters.

The Community Corrections Board is comprised of the following members or their representative: District Attorney, Sheriff, Chief Probation Officer, Manager of Parole Operations, Deputy State Public Defender, District Court Judge, El Paso County Court representative, Police Department representative, Teller County representative, a mental health representative, and six citizen-at-large representatives. All agency representatives serve indefinitely. The citizen-at-large positions are appointed to serve three-year terms.

The board meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 12:15 pm, in person with a virtual option, at the Justice Services office, 17 N Spruce Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80905. Additionally, board members individually review and ballot on approximately 25 referred cases each week.

Volunteer Needed for El Paso County Community Development Advisory Board

El Paso County, CO, January 29, 2025 – The El Paso County Board of Commissioners is seeking community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Community Development Advisory Board. Applications for the open position are due by December 11, 2025.

The Community Development Advisory Board is currently seeking one new member currently residing in and able to represent County Commissioner District 5.

On April 1, 2009, El Paso County became an “entitlement community” and was awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to carry out a wide range of community development activities directed toward revitalizing neighborhoods, economic development, and providing improved community facilities and services.

The Community Development Advisory Board (CDAB) reviews matters of importance regarding the CDBG program and makes recommendations to the Board of El Paso County Commissioners concerning community development issues and use of CDBG funds.

Meetings are typically held on the third Wednesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. (as necessary) at the Economic Development Office at 9 East Vermijo, Colorado Springs, CO. (across the street from the courthouse)

Volunteers Needed for El Paso County Fair Advisory Board

El Paso County, CO, July 9, 2025 – The El Paso County Board of Commissioners are seeking community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Fair Advisory Board. Applications for the open position are due by December 11, 2025.

The El Paso County Board of Commissioners are currently seeking several Associate members.

The El Paso County Fair Advisory Board assists with the development, management, programming, operation, and maintenance of the Fair and Events Complex in Calhan. Board members also help to produce the annual County Fair.

Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.at Swink Hall on the El Paso County Fairgrounds, 366 10th Street, Calhan, CO.

Volunteers Needed for El Paso County Noxious Weed Advisory Commission

El Paso County, CO, July 9, 2025 – The El Paso County Board of Commissioners is seeking community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Noxious Weed Advisory Commission. Applications for the open position are due by December 11, 2025.

The Noxious Weed Advisory Commission (NWAC) are currently seeking one new member.

Members of the NWAC, as outlined by the Colorado Noxious Weed Act, play a crucial role in advising the El Paso County Environmental Division on matters related to the management and control of noxious weeds in unincorporated El Paso County. The NWAC provides guidance on effective strategies for preventing, managing, and eradicating noxious weeds to protect natural ecosystems and agricultural resources. NWAC members review and provide input on the El Paso County noxious weed management plan. Overall, the role of the NWAC members is to support the development of a comprehensive and effective strategy for managing noxious weeds across unincorporated El Paso County, ensuring that efforts are science-based, community-focused, and adaptable. As established by Colorado Noxious Weed Act, Colorado Revised Statute (C.R.S)35-5.5-101, et seq to be eligible to serve on the NWAC as a citizen must meet all three requirements listed below.

  1. Be a resident of unincorporated El Paso County
  2. Be a resident of El Paso County for a least one year and
  3. Own 40 acres of land or more.

Additionally, the NWAC works to raise awareness about noxious weeds. They help ensure that landowners, stakeholders, and the general public understand the importance of managing these invasive species.

The Commission has one annual meeting scheduled at the Environmental Division Office, 3255 Akers Drive in Colorado Springs, CO.

Volunteers Needed for El Paso County Road Impact Fee Advisory Committee

Colorado Springs, CO, July 24th, 2025 – The El Paso County Board of Commissioners is seeking community-minded volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Road Impact Fee Advisory Committee. Applications for the open position are due by December 11, 2025.

The Committee was created by the El Paso County Planning and Community Development Department and the Department of Public Works to provide recommendations to the Commissioners on the implementation of the unincorporated county-wide road impact fee program, in compliance with local, state, and federal laws. The Advisory Committee consists of nine members. Membership is comprised of the following groups: three members of the development community, three county staff members, one representative of the Colorado Springs Housing and Building Association, and two citizens-at-large. Terms are for three years.

The board meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at 1:30, remotely only.

The Road Impact Fee Advisory Committee is seeking one Development Community Representative. The Representative of the Development Community shall represent the development community and own property or represent a party who owns property that is subject to the Fee Program.

Volunteers Needed for El Paso County Citizen Outreach Group

El Paso County, CO, October 16, 2025 – The Board of El Paso County Commissioners is seeking community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Citizen Outreach Group. Applications are being accepted for one at-large member and are due by December 11, 2025.

El Paso County Citizen Outreach Group (COG) helps educate residents on the work of and services provided by El Paso County, serves as citizen ambassadors on behalf of County government to the public as requested by designated staff, and assesses the progress and efforts of County strategic initiatives, such as the County Strategic Plan, the County’s budget, and the activity of the Public Safety tax. The COG, in its capacity, supports the County’s efforts in hosting the County Citizen College, the County Fair and other events in order to encourage and enhance transparency and collaboration between citizens and their County government.

At-large voting members shall be limited to two (2) consecutive three (3) year terms.

Citizen Outreach Group (COG) meetings are typically held monthly at Centennial Hall, 200 S. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO.

Volunteer Needed for El Paso County Board of Health

El Paso County, CO, November 20, 2025 – The El Paso County Board of Commissioners is seeking one new member to serve on the El Paso County Board of Health representing the position of Active/Retired Physician. Applications for the open position are due by December 11, 2025.

The El Paso County Board of Health is the governing body for El Paso County Public Health. The Board of Health governs the agency by establishing public health policies, approving the agency’s budget, and appointing the public health executive director, among other responsibilities.

Regular Board of Health meetings are typically held monthly, on the fourth Wednesday of the month, beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by work or executive sessions when noted on the current month’s agenda or a separate agenda.

Regular meetings are hosted at the Citizens Service Center, at 1675 W. Garden of the Gods Road, on the second floor, in the Snow-Miller conference room, unless otherwise indicated.

Meeting dates, times and meeting agendas are posted on the El Paso County Public Health’s website at www.elpasocountyhealth.org. All meetings are open to the public.
