Groundwater Quality Study Committee

Purpose:

The Groundwater Quality Study Committee seeks to evaluate existing water quality data on nitrates and other potential contaminants, fills data gaps, provides analysis of the data, monitors water quality, and explores land use and infrastructure planning implications. Committee responsibilities include engagement in a collaborative study process which includes the following activities: develop, refine and monitor scopes of work and budgets; provide input on requests for proposals to conduct the studies and consultant selection; provide data for the study process and deliverables; help identify data gaps to be addressed by the studies; develop and implement monitoring plans; review and make recommendations regarding consultant work products; develop recommendations regarding public education, voluntary water quality protection programs, and regulations; and deliver study recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners.

Meetings:

Meetings are held as needed on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at the Pikes Peak Regional Development Center, 2880 International Circle, Colorado Springs, CO. and at other locations with proper notice, such as El Paso County Parks Administrative Offices in Bear Creek Regional Park, 2002 Creek Crossing, Colorado Springs, CO.

Members and Length of Terms:

The committee consists of 17 voting members representing areas of the water providers and management entities, the scientific community, development community, agricultural community, non-governmental organizations and the community at-large. Voting members serve three-year terms. Additionally, the committee includes four ex-officio or non-voting members from El Paso County staff who serve for indefinite terms.
